Adrián Suárez, was born in Caracas, Venezuela on April 23, 1969.
Graduated from the School of Arts of the Central University of Venezuela (1994).
Music, trombone and composition studies at the José Ángel Lamas Superior School of Music, in Caracas. Grant holder of the Fundación Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho to study composition with teachers Helmut Lachenmann and Marco Stroppa (Germany, 1997-2000). Master composer with a postgraduate degree from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart, Germany (2001). Fellow of the Darmstadt Contemporary Music Festival (1998). Fellow of the Donaueschingen Contemporary Music Festival, Germany (2000). Fellow of the Göethe Institut in Bonn, Germany (2001). Winner of the award-scholarship for composers awarded by the German organization Zentralstelle für Arbeitsvermittlung in Frankfurt (2001-2002). Fellow of the Experimentalstudio des Heinrich-Strobel Stiftung (SWR) in Freiburg (2003). Composer in residence at the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), awarded a scholarship by the Mexican Foreign Ministry (Mexico City, 2003). Scholarship holder of the Staattheater Stuttgart to attend composition seminar with Salvatore Sciarrino (Stuttgart, 2004). Winner of an Artistic Residency for 2006 in Mexico City, granted by the National Fund for Culture and the Arts of Mexico. Author and Director of Musical-Dramaturgical shows in Venezuela. Creator of the Ensemble Lux Aeterna, dedicated to the interpretation of works of a spiritual and sacred nature of all time. Founder of the Akoustikos New Music Festival (2009). National Culture Award 2010, Music Mention, for the work Watunna. Caracas, Venezuela. Winner of the Ibero-American Composition Contest for Symphonic Band “Ibermúsicas-Oaxaca”(2016). Winner of the Casa de las Américas Composition Award 2017. Ballet “Piano al tiempo”, Teresa Carreño Theater Ballet Company, 2017. Winner of the Municipal Music Award of Caracas, 2017. Third place of The American Prize in Composition, (band/wind ensemble division) 2022.
As a trombonist he has cultivated popular music from all over the continent, with special emphasis on Venezuelan and Caribbean music.
His activities as a researcher, composer and performer have taken Suárez and his music through several countries in America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
